    I think the meaning to this song is two people that really like eachother but one of them has a bad past and can't really trust anyone. But yet the other one in the relationship is trying to show the other that showing her/him won't hurt, it won't hurt to have them in their arms. Sometimes, you have to take a chance inlove even though "it's not easy giving up your heart".

    The classic story of a boy and a girl. This time there's a boy on the ouside looking in. This girl and boy have their fights, but are convinced they need each other, they play cat and mouse and he's always talking to other girls yet she can't let go of him even though she knows he does her wrong, he's a player, nothing else. They finally break up, the outside boy wants her to know she can be treated like a princess, if she can give him a chance. Let him, be her one and only. I was the girl and the outside boy told me to listen to this song, I've been in love with it and him ever since.

    Sometimes it's hard to let go all the fears, the prejudice, the past. But when we love someone the past doesn't matter as long as the present with that person is perfect.

    I only started listening to this song last night, and I absolutely love it. Adele is a truely gifted artist who has the power to evoke feeling into her music, the fact that she writes her music based on her experiences makes her music heart felt and genuine and just simply true. One and only is an amazing song, that everyone at some point in their life can and will relate to, its about you loving, someone so deeply and you being so scared of telling them exactly how much you feel for them because you're not sure if they'll feel the same. My favorite part of the song is the part where she sings " i dont know why i'm scared, i've been here before, every feeling, every word ,i've imagined it all, you'll never know if you never try. To forgive yor past, and simply be mine". I believe these lines of the song express exactly what it is about. You love that person so much, daydream of them constantly. Of you being together, you wishing you could own up to your fears and just tell them how you feel. But that's so hard cause you're afraid of getting hurt. Maybe because of previous heart-breaks. Okay I've said enough. I don't know exactly the meaning that adele put to this song while she was writing it. But this is just my interpretation of it:-) .

    no matter what hardships we go through. We stick together & fight through them all. It's not about giving up because things seem to be only getting worse. It's about giving up on the bad feelings & move on with good feelings because no matter where you go there's always going to be a struggle. We were made to fight through thick and thin.     To me this song means being in love with someone who your very close to already, a best perhaps, and them not loving you in the same way. Maybe they've had something happen in their past which means they don't want to fall in love with you but they still want to be close to you as a friend. But all you want is for them to give you one chance, to show them how perfect you could be together. That's what this song means to me.

    Sometimes, life might give you exactly what you wanted, all you dreamed and hoped for. But just because you were dying to experience those moments it doesn't mean you aren't scared. There's always ginna be a moment in life when you take your time and think if it's worth giving your heart to someone, even if you're sure he's the one. In my oppinion, that's exacthy the kind of feeling adele has been through when she wrote these lyrics.

    Guys think that they'll find the perfect "princess", the perfect woman for them. It happens often that when they think they have found her, after a while they come up with the smallest defect and she's not the "one" anymore. Woman on the other hand are more objective and understand that no body is perfect. In this song she's only asking for a chance to prove that she can make him happy.

    Tell me how are we suppose to remain friends when you got a whole lot of feelings you don't want to show? I relate to this song so bad, am inlove with this guy whom I've been friends with for over three years now. He tend to show me the love he has but with a wink of a eye all of that is gone.     I completely relate to this song at this point of my life. This is exactly how I feel.
    About the guy who stole my heart. Yet I have no idea how he feels about me. Sometimes he really shows interest in me. But other times I feel that he doesn't care. So far I feel that I'm the only one trying to form something between us. But like they say it takes two to tango. Anyways this song really touched my heart.

    What I believe this song is saying that a person is in love with someone and admits it openly, but the other person is scared to admit that they are in love with the individual. So the person who is for sure in love with the next individual is trying to make them see they are in love with them. Basically telling them its ok to love me, because I love you too.

    It's interesting that as soon as I listened this song for the first time I felt like it has summarized a long time of my life: being in loved of a friend who I know for several years, who has just broken up with his girlfriend, and trying to tell him what I feel but it's such a difficult task because I don't about what's going on through his mind.

    When I hear this song. I think of this guy who passed away who I really liked; it fits me. Like I didn't believe him when he said he liked me and I didn't believe it myself when I realized I liked him. Now he's been on my mind all the time and I do 'grow fonder with every word he says' in videos and so on. =p are. I. P

    This song is about a woman who was hurt in the past and when she found someone new she brought that into the relationship. She was scared and doubted what could be and when she confronted her fears. She was able to tell the new guy how she really feels after she pushed him as a result of the past.     For me it means, let me be that one person who is yours and you being mine. Let me take care of you and hold you forever and that never will a day come when I get sick of holding you.     I believe the meaning of this song is. You and the person you like, are say, best friends. You start to gain feelings for him. Although he is going around flirting with other girls.     I feel shes been in this long term relationship and both her and her man have cheated and shes asking him to give her another chance give there realtionship another chance shes asking him to let go of his past and make her his one and only make there relationship there one in only and to walk that mile to the end of time and to just forgive and forget.     She had fantazied about him alot. "you've been on my mind" she knows he just been hurt so she takes advantage of the moment to dare him to " forgive the past" to give  her a chance and that she's worth it. "the one and only" he needs. She express that she umderstand it aint easy to give up his heart again. She wonders if she'll "ever know how does it feel to hold him close". She doesn't understand why she feeling nervous cause she had repeatly play the senario of finally tell him. (jm).

    I believe its about a woman who realises the feelings she has for a male friend are not just for a friend but is something more true more pure. Shes amased she didn't realise it before but the problem when she tells him he rejects her as he has had bad experiences in the past and just wants to stay friends. So she wonders if he will ever forgive and forget his past experiences and simply be hers.

    I just wanted to add that I feel he may not be the only female in his life. I have lived this song, I have lived other songs of hers, this man she sings about is in a relationship. The love was not black and white, but it was strong.

    This song means not letting a child from a previous relationship that's not yours, ruin present and future relationships because you got attached to the kid and you miss him and now the person who loves you unconditionally has to deal with the love loss from the past//and now this relationship is being poisoned from a past that has nothing to do with the right now. {{sorry guys I know this has nothing to do with the song in entirety but I needed to vent}} lol.
